evaluate face orientation node. if you want to align any object/instance or do anything based on face orientation this node is probably gonna be a life saver. it is evaluating and in rare cases it might give the wrong or rotated orientation but for most cases it works beautifully. enjoy.


instructions:

  1. download the ".blend" file.

  2. append the node group "evaluate face orientation HN V3_6 (append this)"

  3. plug the geometry you want to evaluate the face orientation to and use the output like a regular rotation output. (note - you must use the "geometry" output of the node in order for the node to work. or you can also transfer the attribute of course)


Parameters:

Inputs:

  1. "Geometry" Input the geometry you want to evaluate the face orientation for.

  2. "Localized Faces" prevent faces from capturing wrong face's edges(this option may effect performance with high poly meshs)

  3. "By Edge Direction" Use the edge direction instead of the mid face to mid edge direction.

  4. "Prioritize X To X" Use X to X as a main alignment and Y to Z as a secondary alignment.


Outputs:

  1. "Geometry" The geometry input with a face orientation attribute captured to it.

  2. "Face Orientation" The captured attribute of the face orientation.
